Legal issues from Lawspeed

IR35

IR35 is a tax law exposing contractors, freelancers and interims to significant tax liability in some circumstances. Where the hypothetical contractual relationship between the individual and the hirer is akin to one of employment, HMRC may pursue the contractor for a sum equivalent to PAYE and NI deductions. In the case Dragonfly, the contractor’s IR35 liability was as much as £99,000.

This is a complex area of law and the right legal advice is essential.

Since 2001 Lawspeed has provided advice, contract reviews and template contract terms to help contractors, freelancers, interims and recruitment consultancies to understand and deal with IR35. Contract terms we drafted were pivotal in the successful IR35 appeal case Lime IT. We have thousands of satisfied contractor clients and we are affiliate members of the PCG.
