I know that paperwork and contracts are important, but do they have to take up so much time?

No. Our contracts and support facilities are user friendly and designed to minimise the amount of time that you and your team need to spend on contractual issues – so allowing your team to get on with what they are good at - selling and developing your business. All our standard contracts come with explanatory notes included in the price, and our friendly team is on hand to explain any issues.

Can you help us with all our engagement contracts?

Yes. Whether you hire temps, self employed workers or limited company contractors operating through their own companies or umbrella or composite companies we can provide the right advice and contracts.

Is IR35 an issue we should be concerned with if we are using limited company contractors?

Probably. Most limited company contractors wish to operate outside IR35 to avoid the consequent taxes, and this will usually mean that they will want to use a certain type of contract. Lawspeed has unrivalled experience in relation to IR35 and can provide the necessary commercial templates (see link to IR35 “friendly” contracts) and take the burden of dealing with the contractors' IR35 questions off your hands through our unique free contractor support scheme. There can be distinct advantages in using contractors who operate outside IR35. However as IR35 is not a tax which a recruitment consultancy is required to pay there is no obligation to comply with demands relating to IR35 from contractors.

Do you produce employment contracts for recruitment firms' own staff?

Yes. Employment law is constantly evolving, so all employers need to ensure their contract and operating practices are correct and up-to-date. Lawspeed has a scheme for providing recruiters with a contract of employment, along with help for designing all necessary employment policies.

Our business has to comply with so much complicated legislation. Can you help us with this too?

Yes, as well as producing contracts and commercial services we advise on a wide range of relevant legislation including Data Protection, Working Time and on regulations in other countries. Our constant monitoring of the evolving legal picture is the foundation of the proactive advice we provide to our clients and our contract maintenance service.

What is contract maintenance?

‘Contract Maintenance’ is our unique and popular legal and commercial updating service. The law is constantly evolving. Court rulings, new regulations and changes in focus often mean that contracts can become out of date, or ineffective, putting your business at risk. With Lawspeed’s contract maintenance service you are always one step ahead.

We find that so much legal advice is hazy and that lawyers don’t understand our business...

Lawspeed is widely experienced and knowledgeable about recruitment so you do not need to waste time and money in explaining your business to us – and all of our consultants understand how important it is to provide contractual information that is commercially sound, and based on the real world. Because our clients need to know how legislation or a commercial situation may affect them our advice is always proactive. Better the fence at the top of the cliff rather than the ambulance at the bottom.

How do you charge?

We charge a set price for Lawspeed templates, and an hourly charge for any other work. Often we are able to quote in advance. However, Lawspeed has an innovative approach to fees. We do not charge in six minute blocks, in contrast with many law firms and accountancies, but only for time actually spent. We also do not charge for letters, emails or telephone calls (calls outside the UK are the exception). Our charge rate is highly competitive and offers extreme added value particularly given our expertise in the recruitment industry. Our clients tell us that we allow them to save thousands of pounds through significant time saving, early results and peace of mind.

Do you ever act for clients of recruitment consultancies?

No. We do not believe in compromising our clients' positions or the advice we give to our clients. Consequently we never give advice or contracts to end users, except in relation only to employment law for their internal employees.
