Lawspeed "Knowledge is Power 2009" Seminar

Birmingham: 25th March 2009

Manchester: 26th March 2009

Following our immensely successful agency seminar on 17th February in London, as promised we are to run further seminars on 25th and 26th March 2009 in Birmingham and Manchester.

Some comments on the London seminar:

“good introduction to current issues”

“very interesting and covered most of the contentious issues that I am faced with at the moment”

“very good to attend a business orientated presentation by a knowledgeable company”

“very friendly and highly informative”

In the current economic climate, 2009 is the year that businesses could either sink or swim. This is especially the case for recruitment companies, due to rising levels of unemployment and increasing numbers of redundancies being made. However, it is important not to get too caught up in the ‘doom and gloom,’ and there are positive steps that recruiters can be taking in order to stay on top and retain commercial advantage.

Following the success of our Knowledge is Power 2008 seminar, Lawspeed will run a refresh and update seminar to advise recruiters on key issues to watch out for this year, including

• removal of the VAT staff hire concession

• implementation of new National Minimum Wage enforcement and penalties

• new arrangements for grievance and disciplinary procedures

In addition some more regular topics deserve a review and update, for example

• employment status of agency, and non agency direct workers

• MSC legislation - what works and doesn't work - the impact of the government's current stance on MSC's and 3rd party debt transfer

• IR35 - how does this fit within the current scheme of things

• offshore workers - does the offshore solution work

• preferred and approved supplier lists - things to watch out for from service providers
