Keep calm and carry a BYOD policy!

The Information Commissioners Office has issued a warning following a breach of the Data Protection Act 1998 where a member of staff at the Royal Veterinary College lost a camera which contained passport images of six job applicants.

Aberdeen City Council received a penalty of £100,000 following a data breach where sensitive information was uploaded online via an employees’ second hand laptop.

Though there is no silver bullet for security of data, by inserting the right infrastructure i.e. a strong ‘bring your own device’ (BYOD) policy, staff training and regular monitoring of compliance, this will help protect your data at rest and in transit.

In this technology driven era, a BYOD policy is crucial. If you have any questions about implementing a BYOD policy, call Lawspeed on 01273 236 236, or even better, come to our seminar.
